To explore your assignment topic further, try brainstorming what you already know about it. Ideas could come from:

• the popular press
• other students
• lectures, tutorials and readings

When brainstorming, you can organise your ideas by using concept maps, flow charts, lists or tables.  Sometimes this process can also highlight what you don't know about the topic and which ideas you can safely discard.
