What is the assignment topic really asking?

Begin by identifying topic words to focus on the expected content of the assignment.

Don't forget, assignment topics often contain command words (e.g. analyse, compare, discuss) which direct the approach you should take to the topic. These words are not usually used to search for information.

Reference sources (e.g. subject dictionaries) can be used to help you with the meanings of any unfamiliar words or concepts in the assignment topic.  The Library's Web Reference Sources page will provide you with links to this type of material online.
