Email Alerts and Current Awareness Services

Current awareness services assist you with keeping up-to-date with new publications in your subject area.  For example, most journal indexes and databases allow you to set up a profile where your search can be automatically run periodically and the results emailed to you. Most databases also allow you to set up alerts to email you the table of contents of a journal each time that a new issue is published and added to the database.

It is unlikely that any one service will be comprehensive enough to meet all current awareness needs. Your Faculty Liaison Librarian or the Research Liaison Librarian can assist you in your choice of current awareness services.

Current awareness services (CAS) are available for, but not limited to:

• journal articles - search alerts or table of contents alerts
• books
• web pages

Alternate sources of up-to-date information are:

• discussion lists
• professional bodies and associations
• conferences
