ProQuest databases - Importing References using a Filter

Saving your references:

1.Mark the references you wish to save,

2. Click on Marked List on the top navigation menu.

Screen capture of Marked List

3. From the menu select Documents and Bibliography, then select click on Export Citations into EndNote, Procite, RefWorks or Reference Manager.

4. You have a number of options in which to download your records.

Click on Download in a format compatible with ProCite, EndNote, Reference Manager and RefWorks. When records displayed , use your browser's "Save As" function (from File option on menu bar) to save records.

5. Records must be saved as a Text File (*.txt).

Importing records into EndNote:

The filter to import the references into your EndNote library is not supplied with the installation of EndNote. Save the following file [proquest_uq.enf]  (developed by University of Queensland) into your Endnote\filters folder [path usually c:\Program files\Endnote\Filters]. If you do not save the filter correctly you will not be able to access it from the Import Manager when using EndNote.

See web page on importing records into EndNote using a filter .

Known problems with this Filter:

  1. For Newspaper Articles, the Author field will often contain extraneous information, which should be removed after import.

  2. The references exported from the database give the starting page number only for each article.

If you have any difficulties downloading copies of filters and connection files, contact the Liaison Librarian-Research.
