Why manage your information?

"everyone uses only the information that he can effortlessly find, and ignores sources and types of information that are not easily accessible." (Stibic 1980, p.2)

Does this statement strike a familiar chord? Have you ever found yourself adopting this approach? While this attitude may not be desirable in the academic world, it is certainly understandable, especially in this era of 'information overload'. It relates not only to how you search for information, but also how you manage the information you find.

Once you have invested valuable time and effort in locating and evaluating sources of information - be they documents or data - you want to be able to retrieve them at will, quickly and easily.

A couple of academics at CQU have shared some of their personal frustrations in relation to managing information. Click on the icons below to listen to the audio files, or view the transcripts of their comments.
