Borrowing Regulations

AIC Students

Upon presentation of their ID card each enrolled student in good standing may borrow the following:

Standard loan items issued to AIC students are due for return or renewal 2 weeks from the date of issue, unless a shorter period for a particular item has been determined by the Director, Division of Library Services (DLS) or their representative. Unlimited renewals are available for 14 day loans. 7 and 3 day loans may be renewed twice.

PLEASE NOTE: the following items may not be renewed:

Books and other items in the Reference Section and Tutor Collection are not available for loan.

The responsibility for return or renewal by the due date rests with the borrower. The library endeavours to send a notice if an item is overdue but has no obligation to do so. Borrowers are advised not to return material via a third person as the borrower remains liable for the safe return of the material. Items should be returned via the return chute unless the item is marked otherwise. No borrower may re-lend borrowed material to another person. Penalty points accrue on overdue items at the rate of:

Loan type    Number of points
7 day & 14 day loans 100 points per day per item
3 day loans 200 points per day per item
VAL tapes 200 points per day
Reserve items  200 points per hour

A student may become ineligible (i.e. denied borrowing privileges) if:

The library may recall an item at any time. Failure to comply with a request to return the item by a specified date will result in a charge of $20.00 being posted to the borrower's account. A $20.00 charge will be added every 3 days the item remains overdue up to a limit of $60.00. At this time the borrower will be invoiced for the standard replacement cost and a processing fee. These charges are non-refundable.

The library may declare an item lost if the item is 30 days overdue. Lost or damaged items must be paid for at a set $91.30 replacement charge plus a $19.25 processing fee. In lieu of the replacement charge, the library will accept an exact copy of the item or a later edition. The student is liable for the processing charge even if the item is returned or replaced. A $20.00 reinstatement charge may also apply.

Students who lose their student identification card or have library material stolen should notify the library immediately.

Any person detected at the security exit with library material which is defaced or has not been loaned in accordance with the library's borrowing procedures is liable for disciplinary action.
